PET Fleece or Woven PET Fabric?

When PET fleece is the right choice

W532 PET Fleece Wire Harness Tape combines a flexible nonwoven polyester backing with pressure-sensitive synthetic rubber adhesive. It is designed for applications where noise damping, conformability and hand-tearable installation are important, including passenger-compartment harnesses, door panels, headliners and trunk areas. Choose W532 for soft bundling and local reduction of rattling or friction noise. For repeated rubbing or greater mechanical protection, evaluate woven PET fabric.

When woven PET fabric is the right choice

W531 PET Fabric Wire Harness Tapes use woven polyester fabric to provide higher tensile strength and abrasion protection. Rubber- and acrylic-adhesive options support different durability and installation requirements. W531a is the thinner, hand-tearable grade for general manual wrapping. W531b uses acrylic adhesive and a more robust construction for higher tensile and abrasion requirements; it is not hand tearable and requires a cutting tool or compatible equipment.

Choose by What the Tape Has to Do

Reduce interior rattling and friction noise

Start with W532 when a harness may contact dashboards, trim, door panels, headliners or interior bodywork. Its soft fleece surface cushions contact while maintaining flexibility around bends and branches. Evaluate noise performance on the completed harness in its intended assembly.

Support fast manual bundling

Choose a hand-tearable construction when operators need to work without cutting tools. W532 provides a soft fleece wrap; W531a provides a thinner woven fabric construction. Select between them according to whether noise damping or mechanical protection is the main requirement.

Protect against rubbing and mechanical contact

Consider woven PET fabric for repeated rubbing, chafing or higher tensile loads. W531a supports general fabric wrapping; W531b is the starting grade for higher mechanical demands. Confirm the abrasion requirement, cable-jacket compatibility and application method before approval.

How to Specify a Wire Harness Tape

For selection, provide:

• Vehicle, equipment or installation zone

• Main tape function: bundling, noise damping or mechanical protection

• Continuous and peak temperature

• Required abrasion and noise-damping class, if specified — including the class and the test method your drawing refers to (for example, LV 312 or an equivalent customer method)

• Cable-jacket material and harness diameter

• Flame-retardancy, VOC or customer requirements

• Spot, spiral or full-wrapping method and intended overlap

• Manual or automatic application

• Required tape width, roll length and core size

• Estimated quantity and required documents

Confirm final suitability against the current TDS and testing under actual harness and production conditions. Do not use a value from one construction to qualify another grade.

FAQs

Which grades are hand tearable?

W532 and W531a are listed as hand tearable. W531b is not and requires a cutting tool or compatible equipment. Confirm against the latest TDS before approval.

Can these tapes be used as primary electrical insulation?

They are for bundling and protecting insulated wires. Do not specify them as primary electrical insulation unless dielectric data and approval for the exact grade are confirmed.

Can I order custom roll widths or private-label packaging?

Custom slit widths, roll lengths, core options, winding requirements, neutral labels, private labels and carton marking can be reviewed. Availability depends on the selected construction, converting tolerance and order quantity.

What do you need from me to recommend a grade and quote?

Provide the installation area, required tape function, cable-jacket material, operating temperatures, wrapping method, roll dimensions, estimated quantity and any mandatory test or documentation requirements. If you are replacing an existing tape, include its product number, data sheet or a sample where possible.
